It's... 'okay'...

Well, it's interesting... It wasn't what I expected or hoped for. The formulas contain rather esoteric ingredients, in my opinion, and the rest of the explanations in the book are lacking - alternatively I may not have found all of the information yet because it is oddly organized.

It's just not very clear on explaining specific ingredients... just general (and rather vague to me) information.

And, as an example of escoteric ingredients (in just one simple cream): cetyl ethylhexanoate, cetostearyl alcohol, behenyl alcohol - PLUS (in this ONE cream): stearic acid, beeswax, glyceryl stearate, cetyl palmitate, PEG-40 stearate, PEG-25 stearate, xanthan gum, carboxyvinyl polymer - and that's not all of the ingredients. // Then don't get me started on their other types of recipes.

Somehow I managed to pay only about $50 for it. If I had paid full price I would totally be returning it. At about $50, I'll keep it. I think I'll get just enough value out of it. If I paid $150, I would be mad. Definitely not worth that...

Comprehensive and readable

I got this book to help me understand nutrition in a range of birds (wild and captive) and was not disappointed. It starts with general chapters about the avian digestive system and aspects of their diet and mode of eating then goes on to specific chapters about amino acids, lipids, carbohydrates, energy, minerals and vitamins. The latter chapters all have special sections devoted to requirements for breeding females as opposed to basal nutritional requirements for maintenance.

I had perused similar books but found them to be almost exclusively concerned with domesticated poultry (understandably, as that is where most of the experimental data comes from). This book also relies quite heavily on such data but in addition contains a lot about dietary requirements and consumption of cagebirds (parrots, finches) and also several wild species (e.g hummingbirds!). I especially liked the sections on deficiency symptoms which will be very relevant for vets, zookeepers and those who keep their own birds, and another aspect I found very useful was how much of each dietary component (e.g. calcium, copper, fat, energy) was found in various food stuffs (e.g. different types of seeds etc).

This book is a veritable gold mine of information and is a great resource to have on your shelves whether you are a vet, pet-owner, poultry farmer or researcher. The author is clearly very knowledgeable and writes well and talks about issues related to diet such as plumage pigmentation etc. There is a bit of chemistry in the book, which is unavoidable but I found it to all well-explained amd accessible. I came across many interesting tid-bits of information while reading it that made me rethink my impressions of birds and the nutritional challenges they face. For example, contrary to popular belief, bird skeletons do not make up a smaller proportion of their body mass than mammals - in fact, there is no difference (pg 240)!

All in all it's a fascinating book and one that I heartily recommend. The down side is that it is not cheap. However, it is so packed with information about a variety of topics pertaining to avian nutrition that it still represents value for money. Get it if you can!

It doesn't matter whether you are interested in the feeding habits and needs of parrots or partridges, this book has it all and in an easily comprehensible format. Plenty of tables and charts to help you understand the latest information from someone who really knows their stuff. I couldn't put it down!

This books makes me think that Sandra Cisneros' "House on Mango Street" had to have been inspired by it. A story is told so carefully and artfully through small stories that build up a big picture of Maud Martha's life. Really beautiful.

Oh, how I wish the wonderful Ms. Brooks would write more novels!
First of all, Maud Martha was written very economically which has caused me to gain a greater appreciation of poetry and concise speaking.
Secondly, Maud Martha is not only written to a female or adult audience, but it speaks to all people of different age groups, races, or walks of life.
I appreciate Gwendolyn Brooks for her nobility and classic style. Hope to see at least one more novel from her.
I have already passed on a few copies of Maud Martha. This has gone on to being my favorite book...EVER!

Long answers less overwhelming on flash cards

When it comes to definitions, identifying and other long answers, it's a lot easier to read them and take them in in small parts. That's why these flash cards are so great. They go through the writing process, children's literature and so much more in chunks, breaking things down one card at a time. That information, even though some of it seems long, is easier to take in when it's ONLY one thing at a time. Line all of that into a big book and space it out between other things that you don't REALLY need to know and it's hugely overwhelming. These flash cards are surmountable because they are small and you can take them with you anywhere. You can sit and study them for hours at a time, or you can take them with you and get in a few cards here and there as you go about your day. Whatever way you choose to study, these flash cards can be a huge help.

The flash cards are a very good reference. You can pick and choose which flash cards to take with you, as it comes as a full sheet of heavy weight paper that has perforations that you rip to make flash cards if you choose to do so (each page has 6 flash cards on it). Additionally, I believe it contains a lot of information that never will be covered on the exam. I give it a 3 star rating.

Oh Wow!

This book has been even more eye opening than the first one. It could be so very easy to become fearful of the things Randy Demain writes about but he has kept the focus so clearly on God and how we have victory through Jesus. This is a must read for every Christian and for those who wonder about the end days. It makes so many things happening in our government, or weather, history and more begin to make sense to me now. Wow!

the resurgence of Nephilims?

I believe that Randy meant well in writing this book, but I found lots of discrepancies and many thing he stated did not follow the Word of God. The watcher Angels right not at this present time are chained in the bottomless pit (Tartarus) until the keys are given for them to come up form the smoke similar to the smoke of a great furnace as locust to hurt men for five months. These the men and women who have the mark of the beast on them. They will be tormented for five months and cannot die even if they tried because will flee them. Now, my is question is, why is Randy telling us in his book that the watcher Angels who left their former estate are still among us? How can that be when they are actually chained until lets them loose during the Great Tribulation? He also failed to mention the other four fallen angels (teriphims) who are currently chained at the river Euphrates until God releases onto the earth as the 200 million- strong army to kill a portion of unrepentant mankind with the smoke and sulphur and the stings from their serpent- like tails which is also during the Great Tribulation as God pour out His judgment. There lots of other discrepancies in this book and I would say to other readers, find the truth in the Authorized KJV Bible which the anointed Word of God. Seek God for the Truth for yourself and do not be carried away with false doctrines and false teachers today. God bless you

I truly enjoyed Randys biblical take on this very real and somewhat taboo subject. In light of what has been revealed through the Vatican,I think every person that calls themselves a Christian should take the time to read this book. It is very helpful to have your personal choice of Bible translation to follow through with him on. Great book, I would give it 10 stars if I could. A true must read in these last days.
