Good as introduction, but less good as a reference book

The book explains the momentum, heat and mass transfer in a quite accessible form. It is well organized and the reader will find quite quickly, what (s)he needs. The book is very pedagogic. It is devoted to the heat transfer theory. Consequently, it contains only a few experimental correlations. I would recommend it for the undergraduate and graduate students. The people concerned with the industrial applications will need to accompany it by a handbook, which provides heat transfer correlations in specific cases.

About the Author
GEORGE M. COLE is a registered land surveyor and civil engineer, specializing in riparian and maritime boundaries and geodesy. Mr. Cole was first exposed to water boundaries while serving as an officer of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey. He subsequently served as the Florida State Cadastral Surveyor and as owner/manager of a surveying and engineering consulting firm specializing in water boundaries. Currently, he coordinates consultant contracting for the Florida Department of Transportation. Mr. Cole received a BS from Tulane University and an MS from Florida State University. A prolific writer, he is the author of several surveying texts, and his numerous articles have appeared in both professional journals and law reviews.

About the Author
Dr. Jay R. Shapiro is a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College and the Boston University School of Medicine. He serves as Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Director of the Bone and Osteogenesis Imperfecta Department at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. He served as Director of the General Clinical Research Center at Johns Hopkins University and is on the Medical Advisory Committee of the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation. Dr. Shapiro also served as the Chief for the Bone Team of the National Space Biomedical Research Institute.
Dr. Shapiro has specialty interests in endocrine, metabolic and genetic disorders of bone. Current research activities include: heart disease in adult osteogenesis imperfecta, the effect of nutrition on bone growth in osteogenesis imperfecta, osteoporosis in Rett syndrome and a study of the effects of bisphosphonate treatment during microgravity on the International Space Station (NASA).

About the Author

Arthur Vincie has over fifteen years of film and television production experience as a line producer, producer, and director. Vincie has line produced or production managed numerous independent films and is very active in the New York City independent filmmaking community. He has done production work for major television networks, including NBC, ABC, and BBC America. He founded and currently runs Chaotic Sequence Inc., a company that produces shorts and features. He recently wrote and directed the feature film Found in Time, which won the Best Sci-Fi Feature at the 2012 Shriekfest Sci-Fi/Horror film festival.

as a producer of indie films, i can tell you that pre-production can really make or break a project. if you are organized during pre-pro, then your cast, crew, locations and vendors will make life easier for you during production, you won't have as many fires to put out, and you will have a much better shot at getting what you need on set and completing on schedule and on budget. a book like this has been needed for a long time -- one that gives you the tools you need - including paperwork and forms - to get your act together and instill confidence in your cast and crew. considering how many production books are out there and the fact that your time and funds are limited, you'd be smart to buy this process-oriented book and get moving on your project.

I recommend this book to any filmmaker thinking of making an independent feature. Having heard Arthur Vincie speak in person about the process he goes through when he produces, writes and directs his own movies, I was looking forward to reading it, with the hope that it would contain the same incredibly useful information I've heard him discuss in person. It does, covering every step of the process in detail, from scripting and pre-production, through production and distribution. Systematic theology:
Systematic theology is a discipline which addresses theological topics one by one (e.g. God, Sin, Humanity) and attempts to summarize all the biblical teaching on each particular subject. Its goal is to present the major themes (i.e. doctrines) of the Christian faith in an organized and ordered overview that remains faithful to the biblical witness.
Systematic theology integrates biblical, historical and sometimes philosophical theology into its methodology. Its main goal is to draw a clear description of what the Bible teaches about a particular doctrine. Furthermore, systematic theology not only looks to biblically construct individual doctrines of the Christian faith, but remains aware of the cause-effect relationship of each doctrine. That is, on the one hand, if one doctrine is changed, effects will take place in other areas of doctrine. On the other hand, each doctrine has implications for other doctrines. In the end, systematic theology should naturally flow into practical theology where the conclusions drawn from Scripture are made applicable to the Church.

Berkhof's Theology Sampler:
Berkhof writes, "In Roman Catholic Theology, however, the discussion of the Church takes precedence over everything else, preceding even the discussion of the doctrine of God and of divine revelation. The Church, it is said, has been instrumental in producing the Bible and therefore takes precedence over it; it is moreover the dispenser of all supernatural graces. It is not Christ that leads us to the Church, but the Church that leads us to Christ. All the emphasis falls, not on the invisible Church as the communio fidelium, but on the visible Church as the mater fidelium. The Reformation broke with this Roman Catholic view of the Church and centered attention once more on the Church as a spiritual organism. It emphasized that there is no Church apart from the redemptive work of Christ and from the renewing operations of the Holy Spirit; and that, therefore, the discussion of these logically precedes the consideration of the doctrine of the Church."

"..., it seems that Berkhof raises more questions than answers them. Why did Charles Hodge publish an unfinished Systematic Theology? Why would Dabney leave the discussion of the Church to another department? Why would Shedd not even discuss the Church? It seems to me that this is a marked deficiency in American Presbyterian Theology, but this is not entirely fair. Charles Hodge wrote a substantial work on Church Polity, as well as the Constitutional History of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. Another Hodge, J.A. Hodge, wrote What is Presbyterian Law as Defined by the Church Courts? Thornwell is sometimes best known for his discussion on Church doctrines. And Thomas Smyth wrote an excellent catechism dealing with the doctrine of the Church.

Louis Berkhof (1873 - 1957) was a Reformed theologian best known for his Systematic Theology (1932). He taught for almost four decades at Calvin Theological Seminary and served as its president from 1931-1944. He is best known for his one volume "Systematic Theology," that has gone through numerous editions and been translated in numerous languages. Here we have the humble genius of Berkhof in a small but priceless study on the subject close to the heart of everyone concerned about eternity.
