THE BEST care plan book around

I had previously bought another nursing care plan book, "Sparks and Taylor's Nursing Diagnosis Reference Manual," as it was referred to me by my first clinical instructor. But, as I started creating care plans, I found it pretty uninformative with not much detail suiting what my professor's need was for our assignments. I then borrowed a nurse's care plan book that she had used for her nursing school just the previous 2 years, "Nursing Care Plans: Nursing Diagnosis and Intervention," the 6th edition of THIS book. I LOVED IT! It suited ALL my needs and provided NANDA diagnoses and definitions, as the other did not. I came on Amazon to see if it was available and saw that this new 7th edition was coming out. I had to get this new one because it would be the best of the best. And sure enough, it is! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND to nursing students doing care plans as well as to nurses who create care plans as part of their profession. There are not enough good things I can write about this book. Highly recommended. I'm spreading the word to my classmates this upcoming semester.

Ackley + this book = care plan win

I bought Ackley when I first started nursing school and bought the hard book of this one my second year. I honestly loved both of them, and frequently combined care plans and rationales from each of these excellent guides.

At my school, we had to always have at least two references aside from our textbook in order to get decent grades on care maps. By combining interventions from both, I met that requirement.

My favorite aspect of this book over Ackley was that it included rationales for everything, including assessment criteria. Not only did that make my homework easier, but drilled in what I needed to look for during evalution whenever I encountered a similar patient.

For any nursing student, I would HIGHLY recommend both this book and Ackley in combination.

Nursing School Books are required and are chosen carefully! I am an RN now so they worked well :)

This book was required for my nursing school - BSN program. I feel the selection of books my program chose were all very informative, to the point and we used the books for the classes that required them. During nursing school most people do not know where their career will take them, there are so many options the RN has available, so building a strong foundation is essential to success in the field. Nursing books are not written to be entertaining they are for educational purpose only. This book definitely offered education. After you graduate school and chose a path then find the best reference book you can find and carry it with you until the day you retire. I always recommend the additional study guide to a book if one is available.

About the Author
SINGIRESU S. RAO, PhD, is a professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University. He earned his doctorate from Case Western Reserve University and has extensive teaching and research experience at Purdue, San Diego State University, Indian Institute of Technology (Kanpur), and NASA Langley Research Center. Dr. Rao has published more than 125 technical papers in internationally reputed journals and more than 100 papers in conference proceedings in the areas of engineering optimization, reliability-based design, fuzzy systems, active control of structures, concurrent design, and vibration engineering. His previous books include Optimization: Theory and Applications, The Finite Element Method in Engineering, Mechanical Vibrations, and Reliability-Based Design. Dr. Rao has edited several conference proceedings and served as the Conference Chairman and Papers Review Chairman for the ASME Design Automation Committee and as an Associate Editor for the ASME Journal of Mechanisms, Transmissions, and Automation in Design. Currently, he is on the editorial boards of Engineering Optimization, Reliability Engineering & System Safety, and Microelectronics and Reliability.

For a high level engineering textbook, I expected much better.

I am currently in my fourth year studying mechanical engineering and I have used a lot of text books. I am also working as a co-op with company that designs and builds clutches. It's important that I learn to analyze vibrations because vibration damping and tuning is one of the most important functions of a clutch.

That being said, I really want a quality vibrations textbook. This book is far from the quality I was looking for.

The worst part is that it's full of errors! I'm only in chapter two and I've already found multiple mistakes in the equations! That is simply not acceptable in a 6th edition, $260 engineering textbook! How can trust anything I read? What if I don't catch the mistake next time?

The rest of my complaints are somewhat trivial compared to the first, but are still very real complaints. Overall, I feel like the book was cheaply made. The pages are not nearly as vibrant as my other textbooks which makes it more difficult to read. Other textbooks use boxes or colors to help organize different sections of the chapter and highlight key points. This textbook looks like a novel with a lot of equations which makes it impossible quickly find key equations or even the point of the section without reading it beginning to end. I've seen worse textbooks, but they were $60 or $70. I paid $260 and it's the most expensive textbook I've purchased in my college career.

I enjoy reading textbooks, but reading a textbook is very different than reading a novel. You need to be able to quickly glance over a few pages and immediately understand what is going on before you even start reading the paragraphs. This textbook feels cheap, it's difficult to find important information, and there are unacceptable mistakes in the equations.

Broad Overview

This book provides a very broad overview of all energy topics. Much of the information could probably be found in a more up-to-date form from the internet. The first section seems straight from the EIA's annual energy report. Do not purchase this book as an day-to-day guide for operations, calculations and benchmarks. Do buy this book if you're looking for a general description of energy topics.

I say this as a mechanical engineer as the electrical sections do seem to go into more depth.

I teach power plant technology in an applied sciences college of a large urban university. One of the ongoing challenges of teaching is finding a comprehensive textbook. Although not perfect as a textbook this is a great reference for developing student's foundation in power plant technology

i am a mechanical engineer working for the power generation industry. as one grows up in professional line, the responsibility also grows. as a mechanocal engineer i have been always reluctant to see the electrical aspect of the power generation until one day i have to take important decision concerning the electrical aspect of the power plant. this hand book came to my great help & stisfaction and took me through most of the electrical engg aspects related to power generation in a very very simple way. Topics like the harmonics, selection and imporatntace of many basic electrical components have been very well covered.i am glad to go through such a book. i would imagine such hand book is a must for practicing power engineers.

World Changing

Along with "Frogs into Princes", this book has had the power, and demonstrated it, to change the lives of everyone on the planet. The simple key to communication with the mind, with the intent to change behaviors and emotions is revealed simply as perspective, that is, reframing. It has opened up all paths of possibility of change, even in the face of severe trauma, by leading the suffering or mislead mind into a walk in different shoes.

Appreciated this book.

Not sure about Mr. Bandler as I've seen him on video somewhere and thought he was rather a showman: like he may have been a con artist when he apparently hypnotized this woman. Why? Because it was so hard for me to believe or imagine she could go under that quickly! However, I thought this book a real winner. I will re-read it again (read it quite a few years ago) along with the other book I bought at the time, Trans-formations by Grinder, which I'll review after I read it again. Got a lot out of both books and now that I'm writing it, am going to read them again. This time I'll read them and take notes. Though I have my doubts about the writer, it shouldn't retract from the value of his books. I am probably no great judge of character so don't let me prejudice you. Just appreciate the messages rather than look closely at the messenger.

Breathless, Hot, and Bothered!

I was lucky enough to stumble across Ms. Tyler's blog when this was a near daily-running blog entry back in 2006?? I can't believe it's been that long ago but this is what I've compared erotica to ever since. Jack has ruined so many other book Dom's for me because he came first. Now thanks to "Dark Secret Love", "The Delicious Torment", and "Wrapped Around Your Finger", others get to read what I've been raving about long before 50 Shades came out...THIS is what people should have been reading.

This series is Ms. Tyler's best writing to date, and the Paris trip in the fourth book, "Even Deeper", leaves you breathless, hot, and bothered. But this is just the start of their wicked journey in the heart of the city and later into a dizzying erotic foray into the French countryside. Stay tuned because it's only going to get better! The only way it could be better is a print version to go with my paperback set.

I was beyond excited to see that Alison Tyler published a novella to continue the journey of Sam, Jack and Alex. I enjoyed this novella (which reads fast) and can't wait to read the next part. My four star rating is based in part to the the fact that it left off with a "to be continued" ending that I wanted more from (but this is just my opinion and it might not be a big deal to others). As always, the s-x scenes are very hot and there are surprises in the relationship between the three characters, plus it takes place in Paris! I really enjoy these three characters are they have multiple dimensions and their relationship always has some new component in each part of their story. I hope there are many more parts to come.

This is an expensive, little manual that may be worth its weight in gold many times over for the right person. But that last provision is a critical one. I have had years in sales, marketing and public relations and can tell you that everything you need to launch a successful venture (whether that's in music or something else) is not only here but in a clear, concise, viable form that would be easy to implement--from the elevator pitch to optimizing your web site to grad-school in the use of social media. There is great networking advice and how-to's on formatting a press release and/or choosing a publicist.

This book's list of resources sent me to its Internet, and I am grateful for the straight dope on how to use the technical tools now out there. Too often our myopic friends at Face Book, MySpace, Twitter and YouTube assume we already know what we need to know. If time is money Music Success can save you a bundle. And the wisdom is solid: (from the section on networking) "The biggest goal of networking is: be Memorable. How do you do that? Simple: The more that they talk, the more memorable you are."

But here's the catch. Most people I've dealt with believe their product or service will, given the right opportunity, sell itself. Nothing sells itself. But having that correct orientation doesn't come easily. That's what I mean by the "right person." We are ego driven and blind to what works for others, so caught up in personality we don't realize (or appreciate) what it takes to cut through the clutter. Ariel Hyatt is right in starting with a chapter on "Getting Mentally Prepared," but I just bet many impatient readers will skip over what it says. My advice, read that chapter in the bookstore and if you do what it says, go back and buy the book--you've passed the test. If you don't, well as they say in show-biz, "Don't give up your day job."

What I would have added are concrete examples of how a musician or group actually do their pitch, have an ideal web site and/or use social media to build a fan base. I understand what the author is asking us to do but it would be much more compelling if I could experience it through what someone else has already done successfully. But I love the fill in the blanks tasks: "Ideas for getting your funnel filled, "What is the most interesting thing about you/your band as a story?" or "Start with blogs that you like and then list and check out 50 other blogs they link to."

Now if only I could sing or play an instrument.

+1/2 - Slim but useful workbook for developing a musician's on-line profile

Ariel Hyatt is a music publicist who's reinvented her practice to utilize social media and other on-line channels. Her book provides nine weekly lesson plans for developing your own on-line profile, including suggestions for optimizing your website, blogging, building a mailing list, creating a newsletter, involving your fans with surveys, and building a "continuum program" that incentivizes on-going purchases. The book is task-driven rather than theoretical, with the first written exercise happening only four pages into chapter one. This necessarily leaves out some detail that might be helpful; for example, the suggestion of offering a free MP3 doesn't indicate you must clear all the rights (including a mechanical license for cover songs), and the section on optimizing your website doesn't mention SEO. One could argue these topics are outside the book's scope, but a pointer to follow-up resources would be helpful.

Hyatt stresses the point that many musicians are reluctant to market themselves, and she wisely reframes the musician's career as a business. She points out that a musician who thinks their only job is to make good music is an idealist who's not really interested in having anyone hear their work. The steps she outlines will be difficult for some artists to carry out, but taken one at a time, and broken down into smaller tasks, they become part of your larger job as an artist. Her experience as a publicist, and particularly her understanding of what will get people's attention, is the key to her pitch. She provides compelling advice on how to connect with those who can help advance your career, garnering you more fans, gigs, rehearsal space, private shows, interns, and, eventually, money. She provides valuable guidance on how to make your press kit work on a web site, noting who will be visiting your website and for what purpose.

The downside to this book its brevity. Finally, though one might expect a publicist to publicize herself, the promotion of Hyatt's PR services on page 82 and the four pages of her company's offerings (including the ethically ambiguous ReviewYou dot com) at the back of the book seem opportunistic, especially given the book's high list price. Real World Advice

I've read so many books that tell you exactly how to negotiate with your superstar manager and major record label as you're signing on the dotted line, assured of millions. I think if I ever find myself in that position, I don't think I would be consulting a book. But with all the social networking sites out there, how do I know which ones really matter? What can I do on my own to pump up my upcoming show? How can I fully take advantage of the new wave of internet technology hitting the scene BEFORE everyone else figures it out? Ariel's book will answer all of these questions and MANY more. It's a real world book full or real world advice for an independent musician living and working in the real world.

We've all spent time asking "What can I do to promote my band?". This book not only gave me a plethora of resources and instruction, it lit a fire under my a** and got me out there promoting like a mad man. If you're looking for a healthy heaping of advice, instruction, and motivation, this is the book for you. BUY IT. It's a little pricy for a paperback, but it's much cheaper than hiring someone to explain this all to you. I would equally recommend "The Indie Band Survival Guide" that Ariel's expertise is quoted in.

About the Author

Kelly Anderson's documentaries include My Brooklyn (2012) and Every Mother’s Son (2004, with Tami Gold). Her work has been screened on the PBS series POV and on HBO, and she was nominated for a national Emmy Award. She is a Professor in the Department of Film and Media Studies at Hunter College, City University of New York.

Martin Lucas is a documentary filmmaker and educator with over 30 years of experience making and speaking about documentary worldwide. His most recent film, Hiroshima Bound (2015), is a personal exploration of coming to terms with the Atomic Bomb. He teaches�in the Department of Film and Media Studies at�Hunter College, City University of New York.

Mick Hurbis-Cherrier teaches film production and screenwriting at Hunter College,�City University of New York. Professionally, he has worked as a screenwriter, director, cinematographer, and editor. He is the author of Voice & Vision: A Creative Approach to Narrative Film and DV Production 2nd ed. (Focal Press) and the coauthor of Directing: Film Techniques and Aesthetics, 5th ed. (Focal Press) (with Michael Rabiger).
